This month we had the pleasure of working with Rethink Breast Cancer to bring the "Together" candle to life for the fourth consecutive year in a row. 

In honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we had the opportunity to sit down with part of the amazing team at Rethink to gain deeper insights into the incredible work they do. Their dedication to supporting individuals affected by breast cancer is inspiring. We’re grateful to continue bringing this collaboration candle to life for another year, serving as a powerful symbol of empowerment and resilience.

We are—

Rethink Breast Cancer is a Canadian charity known for making positive change and rethinking the status quo when it comes to breast cancer. Rethink is here to connect, listen, empower, support, heal and rethink breast cancer together.

Our mission is—

Rethink educates, empowers and advocates for system changes to improve the experience and outcomes of those with breast cancer, focusing on historically underserved groups: women diagnosed at a younger age, those with metastatic breast cancer and people systemically marginalized due to other factors within the social determinants of health.

At Rethink, we prioritize forging sustainable and purpose-driven partnerships with like-minded companies and brands committed to raising awareness while helping us address the gaps in breast cancer care by fueling our important work. Our partnerships are anchored in impact and our collaboration with LOHN is a great example of their sustained support. Whenever we ask, LOHN passionately says “yes” and always does what they can to help We’re grateful for their ongoing support!

What does the Rethink candle mean to you? 

The Rethink Together Candle is really special to us for a few different reasons. It signifies community, connection and togetherness. It also shows the strength of our collective community coming together to drive change, lend their voices and values to make a difference and be there when others need them most. They say that a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle and in our experience of supporting the community for over 23 years now, that is also true of the breast cancer community. They help hold others up when it feels most heavy, they offer support when someone is lost, and they can light the way for others when the path is too dark to navigate alone. We’re grateful for LOHN’s support in honouring the community in this way and understanding of what the breast cancer community needs.

What fuels Rethink?

Having the privilege to work closely with so many people who have been impacted by breast cancer to bring greater change to the breast cancer space is incredibly powerful and inspiring. That’s our fuel. Our fuel is also when we encounter moments that remind us of our lasting impact… Like seeing the relief in the faces of a group of women at our events who have never before felt seen and heard, or hearing how one of our support programs “totally changed the trajectory” of someone’s healing, or that our advocacy matters because someone living with metastatic breast cancer knows the weight isn’t all on their shoulders in pushing for change. Our fuel is also when we hear stories and bear witness to the many gaps that continue to exist that people are negatively impacted by. We are inspired by the lasting impact of our work over the past 20+ years, but also the gaps we know continue to exist. We know there is much more to do and we will keep finding ways to make change and rethink breast cancer.
