LOHN @ Home Volume 8

LOHN @ Home is our way of sharing spaces and scent stories in our community.
I run the showroom at Bonne Choice, a hub for ‘collectible design’, in the west end of Toronto. Up until 2 years ago, when we launched the business, I was a career freelance illustrator, working on mixed media drawings and illustrations for a slew of commercial clients around the globe. When the desire to do something new became strong enough, a beautiful opportunity presented itself, and I haven’t looked back. I work side by side with our Founder, sourcing vintage furniture, lighting and decor, as well as introducing exciting new brands to our clientele and community. I work directly with designers and clients to place these unique pieces of collectible design into their homes and projects.
I live in a 150+ year old Victorian in Beaconsfield Village, with my husband Trevor, kids Magnus and Remy, and our Great Dane, Uma Thurman. We’ve been in the same house for almost 15 years now - though it has seen many evolutions. My home does not look like my showroom - piles of soccer gear, stacks of books, bills and dog beds peppered throughout. It is filled with charm and with life. The showroom is where I get to come and be surrounded by a plethora of beautiful things daily - not a soccer sock in sight. We change it up often, so the opportunities for inspiration and general googly-eyed wonder at the things around me are plenty.

I am—
Curious, Creative and Discerning.
To me, a workspace is not complete without—
Good smells and a stack of fresh papers for endless note scrawling.

I recharge by—
Pouring a fancy cocktail, putting my feet up and sitting in complete silence. Followed by Severance.
The scent of salt water always reminds me of—
Childhood. Summer days spent on the beach with sand in every nook and cranny.
I light candles to—
Transport me; especially in moments of chaos. Regardless of what kind of day I've had, lighting a candle feels like a ritual that resets me and gets me out of my head.

My feel good fragrance is—
VARA - The easiest way to give me some tropical island vibes, especially in the dead of Toronto winter.
I'm currently obsessing over—
Dutch designer Dirk van der Kooij. His colourful creations just hit the showroom - tables and stools reminiscent of marbled and melted wax - and I can't get enough of their hypnotic playfulness. I love being consistently exposed to and surrounded by these inspiring designers' works, and his are no exception.
