LOHN @ Home Volume 19
LOHN @ Home is our way of sharing spaces and scent stories in our community.
I’m Rachel, owner of Penny Arcade, a vintage clothing store in Toronto. I started the shop in 2008, curating pieces for women, men, and children. Over time, it’s become more than just a store, it’s a space that feels warm, welcoming, and rooted in community.
I was born and raised in North York, and creativity has always shaped how I move through the world. I studied painting and drawing, and that perspective carries into everything I do, from how I curate the shop to how I connect with people who walk through the door. Penny Arcade is always evolving. It’s less about retail, more about creating something that feels alive.
Sustainability is a big part of my work. I care deeply about keeping things out of landfills and giving clothing a second life. It’s made me more thoughtful about consumption, working with what already exists and finding new ways to bring it forward.
For a long time, I didn’t really know how to answer what inspires me. But now it feels clear, it’s the people. Seeing how customers style pieces, how they make them their own, how something old becomes something completely new again. That exchange is what keeps it interesting.
Right now, life feels full. I’m coming off one of the biggest clothing shows of the year, which always brings a lot of energy. At the same time, I’m renovating my apartment and thinking about bringing home a rescue dog. It feels like a balance between building something outward and creating space for something more personal.
