LOHN @ Home Volume 20

LOHN @ Home Volume 20

LOHN @ Home is our way of sharing spaces and scent stories in our community.

I’m Alex McIntyre, founder of Normy, a home textiles company built on four decades of family craft. Through artistic blankets and thoughtful design, we create pieces that bring warmth, texture, and a sense of memory into everyday spaces. For me, home should feel layered, lived in, and personal.

I was born and raised in Cambridge, Ontario, in a world shaped by sports, the outdoors, and entrepreneurship. That sense of movement and community still influences so much of who I am today. Before starting Normy, I worked in fashion and e-commerce at places like Holt Renfrew and Aritzia. Those experiences taught me a lot, but they also made one thing very clear, I’m a generalist at heart, and entrepreneurship was always the direction I was meant to go in.

A huge source of inspiration for me is my grandfather, Norman. He started his career in home textiles in 1970, and his playful energy, quiet confidence, and effortless eye for design continue to shape the way I approach both product and life. His influence exists in every detail, from the tactile experience of a blanket to the emotional feeling a space can hold.

Home, to me, isn’t complete without good coffee, constant giggling, good friends, and music playing in the background. I’m deeply impacted by what I see, feel, and smell, so scent has always been an essential part of creating atmosphere. Without it, something feels missing.

I am—

Vital. Optimistic. Rhythmic.

To me, a home is not complete without—

Good coffee, constant giggling, good friends, and music.

I recharge by—

An extended morning, journaling, moving my body outdoors, and good conversations with good company.

The scent of Palo Santo and mint always reminds me of—

My best friend’s house from childhood and a feeling of comfort.

I light candles to—

Complete the entire sensory experience.

My feel good fragrance is—

BUD

I'm currently obsessing over—

My red light panel.
